in today’s world, devices are increasingly interconnected. one of the best example: apple . too rich for my blood, but i’ve heard really great things about how the entire apple ecosystem revolves around being able to use different devices together.
for instance, the vision pro can beam your mac’s screen onto a limitless virtual display. you can combine a device with relatively better compute (mac) and a novel display technology (vision pro) for a better ux.
but interconnectedness also happens on a much larger scale. apps like figma , google docs , etc. show how devices can be interconnected across continents, with updates on one device instantly showing up on others.
this post is a short introduction to realtime sync, the concept behind these collaborative apps. but more importantly, this post is like a journal for my realtime sync experiments.
we’re only gonna look at web-based technologies for realtime sync (things like websockets, sse, etc.)
